I am Lauri Newell, an artist and a mother, who cannot forsake one for the other. A Simple Beautiful Life is my aspiration: for my home to be a sanctuary, my closest relationships to be nurturing, and my encounters to spark art and inspiration. I’d love for everything I own to be beautiful and useful. I’d love for Mother Teresa’s words to be true of me:
“Spread love everywhere you go: first of all in your own home. Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next door neighbor . . . Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting.”
Fortunately, I’m learning to enjoy the process of creating this Simple, Beautiful Life. Jon and I have been married sixteen years and have three little girls, Elise, Grace and Emily. We currently live in Nashville, TN, though we’ve moved all over the country.
Teaching reading is one of my favorite things, whether in my Kindergarten class, in private tutoring, or homeschooling. I’m so glad I trained for the Wilson Reading System, which remains my favorite reading curriculum.
Even with small children at home, I’m finding myself in a personal renaissance: suddenly embracing new arts and learning. As I begin this site, I am learning to: speak Spanish, knit, play guitar, write songs, write a blog, cook and eat healthfully, take great photographs.
I invite you to jump into this beautiful life with me! Let’s encourage each other to make space for what’s important. To love where we live means both to thoroughly enjoy this physical nest, as well as being the starting point to love others well. It’s for encouragement, for inspiration, for community.
